Cllr Jody Hanafin voted against a planning application which proposed increasing Bank House from 2 to 8 storeys.
Neighbouring residents of George House will be negatively impacted by this inappropriate development, which would overshadow their homes. The increased height of Bank House would be visible from the High Street, damaging the character of the historic Old Town.
All Labour Councillors on the Planning Committee supported this development, despite the Council’s own historic advisor saying the development would have “an adverse impact upon the setting of the Old Town Conservation Area”.
Sadly, those Councillors chose to ignore advice and voted for the 8-storey development. Stevenage Conservatives will always speak out against inappropriate development.
