On Wednesday 31 July, Stevenage Conservatives held their Annual General Meeting where members elected a new officer team.
The new Officers responsible for running the Stevenage branch of the Conservative Party are:
- Chairman - Jamie Crofts
- Deputy Chairman Membership & Finance - Alastair Bruce
- Deputy Chairman Political & Campaigning - Bret Facey
- Treasurer - Matthew Wyatt
- President - Stephen Hammond
The new leadership team thanked the outgoing officers for all their hard work and commitment to running Stevenage Conservatives over the last three years.
The new team have pledged to relentlessly focus on driving up membership numbers as well as building and expanding the local Party's campaign capacity so that we can get more Conservative Councillors elected in the years ahead.
The new Chairman, Jamie Crofts, said:
I would like to extend my thanks to those of you who were able to attend the AGM on the 31st July. I am honoured to have been selected as the new Chairman for the Stevenage Association and would like to extend my thanks to our previous Chairman, Nick Leech, for all the demanding work he did in returning the Association to the good shape it is in now. The commitment and passion shown by so many members to support our fantastic parliamentary candidate was overwhelming and great to see. In any other cycle, i have no doubt that Alex Clarkson would have been in parliament.
My key message from the AGM is that the Conservatives will be back. We should look forward to the future and know our time is far from over. The new Government's spending and taxation plans will become plain to see; be it a reluctance to support aspiration or a wider incursion on the middle classes. Voices will want to be heard and as Conservatives, we will fill the void.
Our key focus for the year ahead will be to ensure we are ready for the forthcoming Bedwell election as well as the County elections next year. Growing our membership base and continuing to push the local issues raised by Alex is so important.
I am also very pleased to welcome Stephen Hammond as our new Association President. Stephen was the MP for Wimbledon for almost 20 years, serving under David Cameron, Theresa May and Boris Johnson. We look forward to working with him and utilising his vast experience in future. So, thank you for supporting me and please stay in touch. If you would like to get involved in any way, please don't hesitate to let us know.
