On Friday morning, our brilliant and hardworking candidate, Alex Clarkson, unfortunately didn’t get over the line in the General Election for Stevenage constituency. The results were as follows:
- Kevin Bonavia (Labour): 17,698
- Alex Clarkson (Conservatives): 11,080
- Peter Hopper (Reform): 7,667
- Lisa Nash (Lib Dem): 3,467
- Paul Dawson (Green): 2,655
- Joshua Smith (CPA): 148
Like many of you, I am deeply disappointed by this result. We spent the last year, since Alex was selected, running a very positive campaign. We highlighted Alex’s lifelong commitment to the constituency he has called home since the day he was born, as well as the positive changes the Conservative government has delivered for Stevenage since 2010.
Unfortunately, after a torrid few years for the Conservatives, the people decided that it was time for a change of government.
I want to express my thanks and gratitude to each and every volunteer who helped us with leaflet delivery, door knocking, put up signs/posters, phone canvassing, and spread our positive message about our superb local candidate. Your dedicated hard work didn’t go unnoticed, and I am incredibly proud of the effort you everyone put in.
I want to thank Alex. He has tirelessly campaigned across Stevenage, Knebworth, Codicote, Datchworth & Aston, and Alex has also been a great advocate for both our farming and rural communities, as well as more urban Stevenage.
Alex has been a great friend and mentor to many of us over the last 14 years. I wish him every success in whatever he chooses to do next, but I know he will always stay involved with and loyal to his home town of Stevenage.
Thank you once again for your years of hard work, support and dedication to Stevenage and the surrounding villages. Many of the successes we have achieved over the last 14 years would not have been possible without you.
Best wishes,
Bret Facey
